The world is reaching a consensus on the recycling of Pet preform

The purpose of the PET cycle design specification (standard) is to encourage preform designers, processors, and users of PET bottles to take some of these guidelines into account during the development of new products, thus facilitating the development of the physical cycle of PET. The physical cycle is the process of remelting and deforming waste material to produce new products without changing the chemical structure of the material being treated. The main criteria of the PET bottle recycling design specification include avoiding the use of materials and components on PET bottles that hinder the PET recycling process and reduce the quality of recycled PET, and reducing the number of non-pet components to improve sorting and recycling efficiency.

At present, the world is forming a consensus on the design of beverage Pet bottle preform, that is, the elimination of PVC material, as far as possible to use transparent colorless or transparent light color bottle body, bottle cap with a density of less than 1 gram/cubic centimeter lightweight plastic, such as HDPE. But there are differences in the details of the specification and the way it is driven.

South Korea had to dispose of its PET bottles after China banned them in late 2017. Therefore, South Korea stipulated that in 2020, South Korea will stop producing color PET bottles and change to transparent colorless design, but one exception is beer bottles. The south Korean environment ministry has signed a voluntary agreement with 19 companies, in which PVC materials will be banned and any products that violate the rules will be made public. Taiwan’s environmental protection authorities banned the use of PVC labels on beverage bottles as early as January 1, 2008, or the cost of handling them would double.

Unlike the “voluntary” agreements in South Korea and the mandatory regulations in Taiwan, Japan and Europe are the PET bottle recycling design specifications promoted by relevant associations. Europe by the European plastic recycling association (PRE), the European Union for bottled water (EFBW), European plastic circulation and regeneration tissue association (EPRO), and European association for non-alcoholic beverages (UNESDA) four European association established EPBP PET bottle platform (European) launched the European PET bottle design specifications, and accept to evaluate new products and new technology, the introduction of new products and technology to ensure the future not the physical cycle process of PET bottle preform form block.
